The L Word follows the lives and loves of a group of lesbian friends living in Los Angeles. The main character, Jenny (Mia Kirshner), is a recent graduate of the University of Chicago, who moves to Los Angeles to live with her boyfriend Tim (Eric Mabius) and begin a professional writing career. Jenny's life is turned upside down when she attends a party hosted by Tim's next-door neighbors, Bette (Jennifer Beals) and Tina (Laurel Hollomon), a lesbian couple who are about to take the step into parenthood after being together for seven years. A brief encounter at the party with Marina (Karina Lombard), the owner of the local coffeehouse, suddenly has Jenny thrust into a whole new world that makes her question her own sexual orientation. Other friends of Bette and Tina include Dana (Erin Daniels), a professional tennis player who is shy but eager to meet the right woman; Alice (Leisha Hailey), a magazine writer who has a brief relationship with a self-identified lesbian man; and Shane (Katherine Moenning),a hairstylist who can't stick to just one woman, and Kit(Pam Grier), Bette's half sister who struggles with alcoholism.

Bypassing the typical costume drama for a more scandalous take on the times, The Tudors will focus on the rarely dramatized, tumultuous early years of King Henry 8's nearly 40-year, omnipotent reign of England.
When her husband, Judah, dies of a sudden heart attack while out with his ten-year-old son, Shane, Nancy Botwin finds herself in a financial crisis. With no other option available to her, she turns to Conrad Shepard and his family to sell cannabis, using a fake bakery to move the goods. Aided by her wayward black-sheep brother-in-law, Andy (Judah's younger brother), she struggles to keep her new means of bill-solving secret from suspicious PTA members and her nosy neighbors as well as from her children, Shane and his teenage brother, Silas. Coping without Judah as the patriarch of the family reflects in the Botwins, especially Shane, who is going through the painful process of growing up without his dad, with Andy as the reluctant and rather poor substitute for father-and-son topics that go with growing up.
